Why do rebased commits keep their original author date but change the committer date?
- 1Rebase can't modify dates for security reasons
- 2Author dates are stored only on the hosting server
- ✓Correct answer: Git tracks who wrote a change and who applied it
Explanation
Author is the creator of the patch, committer is whoever last applied it (rebase, cherry-pick, amend). git log --format=fuller shows both.
