Browser & Web Performance · Middle · Question 7 of 75

What does CSS `contain: layout paint` tell the browser?

1The element should be painted on the GPU
✓Correct answer: Changes inside the element don't affect layout or painting outside it, so work can be limited to that subtree
3The element can't contain other elements

Explanation

Containment lets the browser skip recalculating the rest of the page when a widget changes internally.
